If you’ve already played Builders and want to know how the Switch version looks and runs, there is both good and bad news. Builders plays great with Joy-Cons and the Pro controller. I lamented the lack of Cross-Save to transfer progress from Vita to PS4, but that obviously isn’t an issue here with a single version being playable in handheld mode and on TV. The button choices here are far more natural compared to the random ones the PlayStation versions had. As with previous versions, there’s no button config changing aside from the triggers. When it comes to the gameplay, one big change is in the button configuration. Nintendo and Square Enix seemingly read my mind and announced the original Dragon Quest Builders for Switch and I’ve had loads of fun with one of the nicest games in years once again. When Dragon Quest Builders 2 was announced for both PS4 and Vita, I kind of wanted to revisit the original Builders. I ended up playing it on both PlayStation 4 and PS Vita soon after release and had a blast almost all the way. As more gameplay was shown off, it piqued my attention and felt more like an action RPG that had a big building mechanic as opposed to a Minecraft clone. ![]() When it was originally revealed for PlayStation platforms, Dragon Quest Builders looked like Minecraft with a Dragon Quest skin. ![]()
